Knighton & District Community Centre has received a welcome grant of £10,000 from the Hafren Dyfrdwy Community Fund.
The centre will use the funding for its Soup from the Hub and Drop-in Eatery services, keeping it running for another year.
These volunteer-led services provide people from diverse backgrounds with a free homemade lunch at the Centre once a week, as well as an opportunity to enjoy social interaction and access to external professional services.
Community Centre trustee Cally Ware said: “We would like to thank and commend Hafren Dyfrdwy Community Fund for this wonderful core funding grant which will enable us to continue offering our award-winning Drop-In Eatery service to the communities of Knighton and surrounding Districts.
“This grant will help provide a nutritious home-made meal and companionship to residents ranging from young mothers to the elderly.”
Both the Soup from the Hub (home delivery) and Drop-in Eatery services were set up during lockdown in 2020 and have become well established and highly regarded projects within the community.
In February 2024 the High Sheriff of Powys presented ‘The Thursday Volunteer Crew’ with an award recognising the great and valuable service to the community both projects offer.
Jade Gough, Hafren Dyfrdwy Community Fund Officer, added: “Knighton Community Centre provide such a wonderful service for the community, and to know that the Soup from the Hub and Drop-in Eatery services will continue for another year is absolutely fantastic.
“We’re so thrilled to be able to support the project and we look forward to seeing it thrive and support so many more people over the next year.”
