Tel Aviv-based company Econorgy revealed plans to construct a 30 mega-watt solar farm on 44 hectares of land near the village of Berrington, southeast of Shrewsbury, almost two and a half years ago.
The firm said the facility could generate enough power for 7,000 homes a year over its anticipated lifespan of 40 years.
But in May 2023, the proposal was thrown out by Shropshire Council’s southern planning committee, despite a recommendation from planning officers that it should go ahead.
The council said the loss of high-grade agricultural land and the adverse visual impact of the development meant it could not proceed, but the developers argued that the area already had a good supply of suitable farmland and that the environmental benefits would outweigh any negative effects of the scheme.
