In October last year, plans were submitted to turn The Bridge House in Wappenshall, near Apley in Telford, into apartments.

Once the home of Bridge House Day Care, a care facility that specialised in helping younger people with dementia, the facility closed in 2018 and the building has stood empty ever since. In the meantime, the application stated, the Victorian building is "busy falling into disrepair".

In 2019, the owners had been given permission to turn the former care home into a bistro restaurant - but just before construction began, the coronavirus pandemic hit and the project was "mothballed".

When the new plans were submitted, the original application also proposed utilising and increasing the height of existing outbuildings, and converting the existing home onsite to create 13 apartments in total.
