Preferred Homes (Shrewsbury) Ltd says the site in Maxfield Drive will make “a valuable contribution” towards meeting housing needs generally within Shrewsbury and Shropshire, specifically specialist housing for vulnerable groups.
The home will consist of 51 one-bedroom units and 13 two-bedroom units, as well as a lounge and dining space, a kitchen, multi-purpose flexible rooms and other communal space, a guest overnight suite, and a bistro/café/restaurant.
Parking will be provided for 26 cars, including provision for disabled use and electric vehicle charging, as well as cycle/scooter parking.
The garden, meanwhile, will consist of an ornamental and sensory communal courtyard area with a circular walk, an ‘allotment’ type area consisting of raised beds for the residents to have their own gardening opportunity, and further planting and quiet seating areas.
Neither the parish council or the local Shropshire Council member raised any objections. Officers were therefore granted delegated authority, and they approved the application subject to conditions being met.
“The principle of the development is acceptable in planning policy terms and the revised design is considered to address the previous concerns relating to poor quality,” said case officer, Mike Davies.
“As such, the proposals are now considered to align with both the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) and development plan policies.”
