A request was submitted by residents living around the Hampton Drive Park children’s play area last year, who said they were "very much in favour" of having trees planted.

Residents wanted to encourage having different species in the area to improve biodiversity, as well as to improve the appearance of the play park.

Jane Shepherd and Sarah Pritchard were at the forefront of the calls and sought assistance from Market Drayton Town Council.

Civic leaders decided the local authority would fund the provision and supply four types of tree for the area.

Market Drayton Mayor, Roy Aldcroft joined local residents to dig holes and plant the trees on Monday (February 24).
