Three people were treated for potential smoke inhalation by paramedics at the scene of the blaze in Station Road, Much Wenlock.
Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said that the blaze was within the bedroom of a property, fire crews prevented this from spreading to another bedroom and to nearby properties.
Station manager at Telford Central Fire Station and operations manager, Paul Gray said: "We had a property fire consisting of a fire in an upstairs bedroom. Three people are safe and well, they self extricated prior to our arrival.
"We have had six breathing apparatus in use to extinguish the fire that is now under control.
"A fire investigation is now taking place and at one point we had four fire appliances here from Telford, Wellington and Much Wenlock and an aerial platform ladder from Shrewsbury. It was quite a fully developed fire.
"We got the fire under control quite quickly. It had started to spread into a neighboring bedroom but we managed to stop it and protect neighbouring properties. Three people have been given precautionary checks by the ambulance service.
"At the moment the cause of the fire is unknown. There has been some internal damage to the property."We are going to be turning over and dampening down and a re-inspection will be carried out."This highlights the importance of occupants of properties to make sure they have a working smoke alarm that has been tested."

Earlier a Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “On Thursday, February 27 SFRS Fire Control received a call reporting a fire in Much Wenlock.
