Transport for Wales (TfW) said the engineering work will be taking place between Shrewsbury and Machynlleth with the line closed in two stages from 6pm this Friday, March 21, until Wednesday, April 2.

The work comes after another section of the line, from Newtown to Aberystwyth, has been affected throughout this week.

TfW bosses said that replacement bus services will be running between the two stations throughout the closure.

A spokeswoman for the firm said: "The line closure will allow a considerable amount of essential renewal and maintenance work to take place, including track renewal work, embankment strengthening work, and a number of key maintenance activities between Shrewsbury and Machynlleth."
