CellPath in Newtown makes products used in the process of gathering and analysing human tissue samples for the branch of medicine known as cellular pathology.

The business has been expanding recently, with its workforce growing from about 70 to nearer 90 since the beginning of the year.

Now it has officially opened a new distribution centre which will allow the company to improve its supply of products to customers, and to aid the business's further growth.

Marketing manager Tim Davies said: "All in it is an investment of about £1 million when you include things like racking.

"It will mean a raft of things – it will allow us to operate more leanly, shortening delivery times for both our export and UK customers."

The company has traditionally seen a lot of its growth come in the UK.

More recently it has benefited from international growth, having appointed a new commercial director, repackaged products to allow them to be sold in specific foreign territories, and appointed a designated export team.

That has helped overseas sales spike by 25 to 30 per cent this year, giving the company growth which will see it on track for annual turnover of more than £9 million.

It has also brought in new distributors in Eastern Europe, and agreed tie-ups with American companies to distribute their products in Europe.
