The two groups, which currently run independently with dozens of members on each side, will now come together as a single group with an independent chairman and vice-chairman.

The groups will continue to hold quarterly breakfast meetings, with two in Shrewsbury and two in Telford each year. It is being backed but is independent from Shropshire Chamber of Commerce.

The combined group doesn't yet have a name, but will be free to join for eligible businesses with a small charge to attend each meeting.

SBP chairman Paul Bennett said: “This is a positive move for SBP and it makes sense to create a stronger county-wide network for the business and professional services sector while retaining an independent voice and opportunity for collaboration for professional business services companies."

Former TBP director Graham Davies said: “Joining forces with SBP provides a much wider platform and greater opportunities for our members.

"I am also confident the chamber will ensure a smooth and effective integration of our respective networks."

TBP has been established for 20 years, originally with support from the Telford Development Corporation and later Telford and Wrekin Council as an independent network group for business professionals with membership by annual subscription.

SBP began in 2012 as a similar independent network group for business and professional services sector across Shropshire meeting at Shrewsbury Town Football Club.

SBP has relied on pro-bono services to run and administer the group. SBP is currently Chaired by Paul Bennett and supported by a dedicated executive team. SBP regularly attracts 60-80 attendees to its events with a good range of topics and high-profile guest speakers including Sir John Timpson and Google.

Shropshire Chamber of Commerce stepped in to provide administrative support to TBP when T&WC terminated its administrative support in 2016.
