How the new business park could look

The new Innovation Park on land south of the A518 will see new business premises built for business of different sizes, and changes made to the road network including the A41 and A518.

It will also see infrastructure installed around the park, a training programme delivered alongside Harper Adams University to support businesses, and "sustainable transport" put in place to link the park with Newport town centre and to allow for new housing developments.

The plans are backed by £6.3 million of Government funding via the Marches Local Enterprise Partnership, along with cash from Telford & Wrekin Council's Land Deal with the Homes and Communities Agency and contributions for developers.

Local people will be able to see the detailed proposals from Wednesday, October 25, and to get involved in a public consultation until November 3. Work is expected to begin on the park next year.

Lee Carter, Telford & Wrekin Council member for finance, commercial services & economic development, said: “This site will be very attractive to high-tech companies, creating hundreds of highly skilled and well-paid jobs.

"It will link in with the borough’s strong manufacturing sector and is in close proximity to the world renowned Harper Adams University and will support the development of Newport as a national centre of excellence in agri technology.

“This is another significant investment by the council into Newport which will greatly boost business and employment in the town. It follows the purchase last year by the council of Audley Avenue Enterprise Park, securing hundreds of jobs.

“Following this consultation, we hope to submit a planning application at the end of this year and begin work on the new site in 2018-19.”

Councillor Eric Carter, chairman of Newport Regeneration Partnership, said: "Newport has been earmarked for a lot of new homes, and now jobs are needed.

"The proposed development is something that we are looking forward to and we can't wait for it to come to fruition."

Other Newport councillors including Peter Scott, Stephen Bentley and Stephen Burrell also welcomed the plans.

The plans will be available to view at Cosy Hall in Water Lane, Newport, on Wednesday October 25 between 3pm and 7pm, and will then go online.
