Renowned travel journalist to headline digital tourism conference in Shrewsbury
Simon Calder will be sharing his expertise at a digital tourism event in Shrewsbury this month.
The renowned travel journalist will lead the discussions at a free event, tailored for professionals in the tourism and hospitality sectors.
The conference is taking place at Theatre Severn on Wednesday, February 12, and will explore how improved connectivity can revolutionise the tourism sector across Shropshire and beyond.
The event is part of a series of Digital Tourism Conferences funded by the River Severn Partnership Advanced Wireless Innovation Region (RSPAWIR) and delivered by Gloucestershire County Council.
Matt Smith, programme manager for RSPAWIR, said: “We recognise that tourism is a key part of the region’s economy. Through these events, we aim to demonstrate how advanced wireless technology can boost tourism, protect our environment and local businesses, improve how we deliver rural services and collect information to support future investment.”
Shropshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture and Digital, Robert Macey, added: “Our aim is to bring people from all areas of the tourism industry together and to demonstrate what can be achieved by embracing wireless connectivity and digital processes, whether that is streamlining their businesses through ticketing and booking or improving visitor experience by embracing promotional ideas such as immersive experiences.”
The conference will feature expert-led discussions on topics including enhancing mobile and broadband connectivity, developing immersive Augmented Reality experiences, leveraging AI to streamline business operations, and understanding the benefits of wireless technology.
Attendees will also have the chance to explore a suppliers' marketplace, where businesses can discover innovative 5G and wireless solutions designed to boost the visitor economy.
