National Apprenticeship Week: James' journey from podium to property
A Shropshire man, who went from competitive cyclist to aspiring Chartered Surveyor, has shared his story in a bid to inspire others.
James Satoor first connected with Cooper Green Pooks in 2016 at the Shrewsbury Grand Prix, a cycling event organised by director Chris Pook.
James' podium finish in the Under-14 race led to their introduction.
In 2021, James joined Cooper Green Pooks to gain experience in the residential property management team.
His growing interest in commercial property, combined with a desire for hands-on learning, led him to explore a different career path.
In early 2022, James joined the commercial property team and began a five-year degree apprenticeship at Nottingham Trent University, studying Real Estate.
“The apprenticeship works really well for me,” James explained.
“Nottingham Trent is a great university with a strong reputation for its Real Estate course, and it’s an incredible opportunity to network with like-minded students who I share a similar interests with.”
Now halfway through his qualification, James is an integral member of the commercial property team, balancing his studies with full-time work and a continued passion for competitive cycling—a sport he has pursued since the age of 12.
Mr Pook, who has mentored James throughout his career, said: “James is a real asset to the Cooper Green Pooks team.
"I’m passionate about providing opportunities for young people, and James is a brilliant example of how investing in talent through apprenticeships can benefit both the individual and the business.”
