The rider was one of more than 100 bikers stopped on the A44 between Aberystwyth and Llangurig during an operation by Dyfed-Powys Police to reduce road casualties.

Among the roads targeted over the weekend was the A44 where on June 17 four members of a Llanidloes family were killed when their car was involved in a collision with a van and a fuel tanker.

John Kehoe, 72, his wife Margaret, 65, Martin Pugh, 47, the partner of the couple's daughter, and his niece Alison Hind, 28, died in the smash.

Dyfed-Powys Police said today they were continuing to focus their efforts on reducing casualties and officers were out in force last weekend.

A spokeswoman said: "High visibility patrols and speed checks were carried out on the main routes used by bikers as part of ongoing Op Darwen. Op Darwen aims to engage with motorcyclists – educating and enforcing where necessary in order to tackle anti-social and dangerous riding.

"Throughout the weekend approximately 120 motorcycles were stopped, with 71 riders found to be committing road traffic offences. Thirty-nine of these were excess speed. Of particular concern was one stopped for doing 115mph in a 60mph area on the A44 between Aberystwyth and Llangurig.

"Such recklessness on the very road where only last week we saw the tragic loss of four lives is unacceptable."

She added: "Three motorcycles were seized for having no insurance, five offences detected relating to driving licence, and the remainder were related to construction and use."

Motorists were also targeted. A total of 59 motorists were dealt with for traffic offences – 36 for excessive speed.
