The girl was on her way to Wrockwardine Wood Junior School this morning when she was stopped on the junction of Church Road and Woodhouse Crescent.

The man, thought to be aged about 50, was driving a red car and asked her if she wanted a lift to school. She said no and carried on walking but he stopped her and asked her a second time.

When the girl arrived at school, she let her teachers know straight away. She is safe and her parents have been informed.

The man was wearing a blue top and had blonde hair.

The school warned parents to be vigilant and to "spread the word to keep our children safe".

West Mercia Police spokesman Paul Roberts said: "West Mercia Police was called to a report of a school girl being offered a lift by a stranger in the Trench area of Telford at around 8.30am today.

"An unknown man, described as white, medium build with short, light brown hair and aged around 50 years old, is believed to have called out to the girl while driving a red car along Church Road this morning.

"Officers from the Safer Neighbourhood Team are providing reassurance patrols and conducting house to house enquiries in the area, and anyone who may have seen a man or car matching the description in the area is asked to call police on 101, quoting incident number 118s of 7 September."
