Archie Spriggs: Mother charged with murder of seven-year-old son near Church Stretton

The mother of seven-year-old Archie Spriggs has appeared in court after being charged with his murder.

Archie Spriggs was found dead at a house on Rushbury Road in Wall under Heywood, near Church Stretton on September 21.

Lesley Speed, aged 44 of Rushbury Road, has been charged and appeared at Telford Magistrates Court today.

Dressed in a black sweater and light blue denim jeans, she spoke only to confirm her name and address.

Magistrates adjourned the case and she was remanded her in custody until Monday when she is due to appear at Stafford Crown Court.

An inquest was opened this week on Archie's death where it was said that police were called to a residence on Rushbury Road at 6.30pm on September 21 and that the boy had been found dead at the property.

Earlier this week, Archie's family released a brief statement: "Archie's father, step-mum, brother and family are facing challenging times and would like to ask for our privacy to be respected while we come to terms with this devastating loss."
