The 999 number is for emergencies only

West Mercia Police's Operations and Communications Centre tweeted this evening to say they had received the calls from the same phone number.

The force urged people to be careful where they store their mobile phones.

999 should be used to contact police if a crime is happening right now; someone is in immediate danger, or there is a risk of serious damage to property; a suspect for a serious crime is nearby; there is a traffic collision involving injury or danger to other road users.

For all other calls to the police in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland people should call 101.
