'I have drunk a lot': Boxing Day motorist was almost three times the drink-drive limit
A Boxing Day motorist has been banned from driving for two years after he was found to be nearly three times the drink-drive limit.
Simon Mullins, of High Grosvenor, Bridgnorth, pleaded guilty to a charge of drink-driving when he appeared at Telford Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
The court heard that in the early hours of December 26, Mullins gave a reading of 101 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, when providing a breath test for police. The limit is 35 microgrammes.
Prosecuting, Abigail Hall, said that police officers spoke to Mullins, who had been driving a white Seat Arosa on Highgrove, in Worfield, and asked what he had been doing, to which the he replied 'I have drunk a lot'.
Representing himself in court, 39-year-old Mullins said: “I understand the implication of what I have done, and I am truly sorry. If I could take it back, I would.”
Magistrates banned him from driving for 24 months and handed him a 12-month community order, with a requirement to complete 40 hours of unpaid work.
He was also ordered to pay £135 in costs and an £85 victim surcharge.
Mullins was also offered a drink drive rehabilitation course, which would cut 24 weeks off his ban if he completes it before May 21, 2019.
Chairman of the magistrates, Sally Themans, said: “It is a very high reading - almost three times the limit.”
