Halfway House murder: Commissioner praises police as killer behind bars
West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion today praised West Mercia Police for their swift work in bringing to justice the killer of a Shropshire diner owner.
Kitchen worker Belkar Singh was yesterday jailed for more than 27 years for the murder of Satnam Singh Blugher at Tony's Diner on the A458 at Halfway House between Shrewsbury and Welshpool on June 25 last year.
Belkar Singh, aged 58, struck and stabbed his employer - known locally as 'Mr B' - more than 50 times, using a pan and knives.
He then stole £47,000, along with gold jewellery belonging to the family before fleeing the area.
Mr Campion said today: “I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all those involved in the case; West Mercia Police officers and staff, the Crown Prosecution Service and members of our local communities who came forward to support the investigation.
"My thoughts remain with Mr Blugher’s family, and I hope they can find some comfort as justice has been served.
"As always I am committed to ensuring that our communities are safe and feel safe, by making sure our police are well resourced, and that partners are joined up to tackle serious crime. This case exemplifies this and the public should be reassured by the swift actions to apprehend the man responsible and bring him before the courts.”
