Third arrest as two men released in Shrewsbury assault probe

Two men who were arrested after a man was seriously injured in an assault in Shrewsbury have been released from police custody while investigations continue.

A third man has now been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm to the 35-year-old victim, who was set upon in the early hours of Saturday.

Police are still appealing for witnesses to the assault which took place on Lancaster Road, just after 1am.

The injured man remains in hospital with serious injuries, which are not thought to be life-threatening.

The first two men, aged 35 and 36, who were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm have been released under investigation.

It is believed that all the men involved in the incident were known to each other.

Detective Inspector Oliver Ewels said: “This appears to have been an isolated incident among people who know each other. However, many people in the local area may have seen or heard something that could be relevant to our investigation.”
