Armed police called to Telford street violence
Armed police descended on a Telford street as disorder broke out involving a group of men.
One man has been arrested on suspicion of affray following the disorder in Brookside on Wednesday night.
The officers were sent to the scene in Burford, at around 9.10pm, after an initial report stated a gun had been seen.
It was later established that there was no gun and specialist firearms officers were stood down.
West Mercia Police received calls reporting a disorder near to the shops on Burford – where they believed a group of men had various objects such as knives and tools. Three cars were seen to leave the area a short time later and one caller reported having heard a bang.
During the incident, the windscreen of a car was smashed – with police believing a golf club was used.
The 31-year-old man arrested on suspicion of affray, remains in police custody.
Detective Inspector Lee Holehouse said: "We believe that the people involved in this affray are known to each other, and our on-going investigation will involve conducting enquiries in the local area over the coming days.
"Hearing this affray was frightening for people living nearby and using the shops.
"Brookside residents should not have to put up with incidents like this on their doorsteps and there will be increased patrols in the area to provide reassurance and information.
"Please do approach one of our officers if you have any concerns in relation to Wednesday night's events."
