Steven Pearce, 35, pleaded guilty to a charge of drink-driving on March 6 when he appeared at Telford Magistrates Court.

Pearce failed a breath test after he gave a reading of 78 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Prosecuting, Abigail Hall said: “It was around 4.50pm in the afternoon, Pc Stone located a Vauxhall Vectra in Church Road, in St Georges. The vehicle had been involved in a road traffic collision.

Pearce admitted he had been driving and the officer smelled alcohol on his breath. A breath test was positive.

In interview, Pearce stated he was approaching the junction and was unfamiliar with the area.

Miss Hall said: “He did not see the other vehicle and collided with the rear of the vehicle at low speed. The other vehicle flipped over.

“His car had minor front end damage and found the other driver was unhurt.

“He moved his car and returned to the scene as not to cause an obstruction. He said he had three or four pints of normal strength lager – Carling. He said it was not an unusual amount for him to drink.”

The court heard that Pearce, of Rawlins Street, Stoke-on-Trent, had previously been caught drink-driving and received a ban for two years in September 2015.

Defending himself in court, Pearce said: “There is no excuse for my actions. I am deeply sorry."

.”

He was ordered to pay a fine of £350, costs of £135 and a victim surcharge of £35.
