Emergency calls soar by 30 per cent over the weekend

Calls to the emergency services in Shropshire rose by 30 per cent at the weekend compared to the previous Saturday and Sunday.

At the peak call time on Saturday, at about 10pm, West Mercia Police operations and communications centre received a 999 call every 69 seconds.

The centre tweeted saying: "Very busy weekend here in OCC."
