Armed police sent to Telford as teen 'seen with samurai sword'
Armed officers were sent to Telford after a teenager was spotted with a samurai sword.
Nobody was injured but a nearby school was asked to keep pupils inside while police dealt with the incident in Brunel Road, Malinslee.
Officers were called at around 3pm on Thursday to reports of a teenager carrying a sword on the busy road, which runs past Old Park Primary School towards Telford town centre.
A 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon and remains in police custody.
It’s believed the sword was in a sheath but was still visible to passers-by. West Mercia Police said there was not believed to be a threat to the public.
Local Safer Neighbourhood Inspector Paul Arnold said: “Officers quickly attended and arrested a 16-year-old boy who is now in police custody and our enquiries will continue to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
"No-one was injured and we do not believe there was a threat to the wider public.
"Officers will remain in the area to offer reassurance to the local community.”
Officers remained in the area throughout the afternoon, to reassure residents and members of the public.
