The father, who wishes to remain anonymous, has spoken of his "frustration" with West Mercia Police regarding the "lack of response" in relation to a violent attack that took place in Shrewsbury town centre last month.

His 24-year-old son and a friend were walking past Fever nightclub when they became aware of a group of approximately six young men shouting verbal abuse towards them.

Without confronting the group, the pair walked on, but moments later they were on the ground where they were kicked in the face and body.

His son sustained three fractures – two to the face and one to his eye, while the friend was covered in bruises. The police were called immediately.

"It was horrific, you feel sick seeing your son like that," said the father.

"I know things like that go on, I have been young and things happen, but when it happens to one of your own you feel physically sick."
