Care worker kicked non-binary person in head and spewed transphobic abuse in 'nasty' Shrewsbury attack
A care worker who beat up a non-binary person - kicking them in the head and calling them a "dirty cross dresser" - has avoided prison.
Jack Conlin, aged 21, attacked Will Falshaw in Frankwell, Shrewsbury, raining down blows and spewing transphobic abuse as they were on the floor.
He was handed a nine-month prison sentence, suspended for two years at Shrewsbury Crown Court by Judge Anthony Lowe, who said Conlin needs to learn to "live and let live", and hopes the criminal proceedings serve as a "wake-up call" for his "attitudes".
The court heard how Will was walking near The Anchor pub in Frankwell with a takeaway in their hands when they saw two men approaching.
Conlin accused Will of going into the ladies' toilets at Havana Republic in Abbey Foregate.
He struck Will multiple times, knocked them to the floor and kicked them in the head. Will suffered a large lump to the back of their head and swollen eyes, as well as pain in their ribs and left hip.
