Nichola Sharratt, aged 44, of Teasdale Way, Stourbridge, had pleaded guilty to four charges relating to the crash in Bridgnorth on July 17 and appeared at Telford Magistrates Court on Wednesday to be sentenced.

She had been convicted on August 8 of two counts of common assault of an emergency worker, one count of criminal damage of less than £5,000 to a police car, one count of using threatening, abusive, insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress and one count of failure to provide a specimen for analysis.

Her mitigating solicitor said she had suffered a psychotic episode during a mental health crisis. She was supported in court by her son.

Mrs Katie Price, prosecuting, said the crash on Ludlow Road in Bridgnorth saw the white BMW end up on its side in the hedge with its airbags deployed and that it could no longer be driven.

Sharratt had no shoes and socks and claimed she was a "freeman on the land and the Magna Carta" when police approached her.

"She appeared drunk and got into the car and tried to drive it," said Mrs Price. "She was irate and swinging her arms about. She was using foul language."
