David Moore, aged 59, "could have killed" the 16-year-old when he hit him with his Ford Focus on The Mount, Shrewsbury - just yards from Mount House, the birthplace of Charles Darwin.

Moore carried on driving away from the scene with a smashed windscreen, and only stopped and turned round when he hit traffic and pedestrians near The Bull In The Barne pub ordered him to go back.

Shrewsbury Crown Court was first shown forward facing dash-cam footage from Moore's car as he was driving along The Mount towards the Frankwell island at around 6.45pm on September 18, 2021.

The victim, a college student, was walking in the road and was described by a 13-year-old witness as "stumbling". Moore hit him and carried on driving.

Rear facing footage showed the car shake when Moore hit the victim, who landed in a heap at the side of the road.
