Knock knock, you're nicked: Telford police arrest three people on doorsteps for alleged shoplifting
Police targeted two homes in Telford today and arrested three people in connection with alleged theft and shoplifting offences.
West Mercia Police officers posted a video online showing arrests being made at two addresses in Wellington on Monday morning during Business Crime Week.
They say it followed information provided to police.
A woman, aged 44, was arrested at a property in Fowler Close on suspicion of eight counts of theft and one count of fraud. A man, aged 36, was also arrested at the same property on suspicion of five counts of theft and one count of theft of a pedal cycle.
A second woman, aged 52, was arrested at an address in Mill Bank on suspicion of theft from a dwelling.
All three remain in police custody as further enquiries are carried out.
In a short video posted online officers are shown politely knocking on a door before turning to more drastic measures, using tools to remove the lock.
After the door lock is broken officers file in through the door and a person in a black hooded coat is led away and placed in the back of a van.
It moves on to another clip showing a person opening the door to an officer's knock and some censored language before they are put into the back of a van.
A third person in a colourful yellow and green top and black and red trousers is then seen being led away, with language censored, and again put into the back of a police van.
The arrests come in Business Crime Week, and highlight the work that West Mercia Police does to tackle business crime, including offences such as shoplifting.
Business Crime Week runs from today until Sunday.
