Shrewsbury shoplifter's 'stupid mistake' punished by fine and compensation order

A shoplifter who stole razors and cosmetics from Boots has been fined £150 and ordered to pay compensation of £233.49 to the high street pharmacist.

Kerry Coaten, aged 46, of New Park Close, in Shrewsbury, pleaded guilty to theft at Boots in town on September 28, 2023, when she appeared at Telford Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

District judge Kevin Grego was told Coaten had initially denied stealing four packs of Gillette razors and two pack of Boots cosmetics from the store. But she had been spotted on CCTV and was arrested by police "within minutes".
