Man, 70, facing indecent images and extreme pornography charges found dead before court appearance

A 70-year-old man who was facing multiple charges of making indecent photographs of children has been found dead at home, a court was told.

Philip Morris, of Garside Close, in Hengoed had been due to make his first appearance facing five counts at Telford Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Magistrates were told by prosecutor Kate Price that Morris had been found dead at his home near Oswestry.

The charges against him, which were not mentioned in open court, were withdrawn.

Morris had been due to face charges that had included sending a message that was grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character in Oswestry on November 10, 2022.

He had also been accused of making 516 category A indecent images of children between January 28 and March 12, 2023, 337 category B images, 282 category C images. All were alleged to have taken place in Oswestry.

He also faced a fifth charge of possessing 17 moving and eight still images of extreme pornography involving animals.
