Baschurch primary school set to get an extra classroom
A Shropshire primary school has been given the go-ahead to build an extension for a new classroom and toilets.
Baschurch CE Primary School, in Eyton Lane, Baschurch, can now start building the extension, which is planned to be built from red bricks with blue slate tiles to match the existing buildings.
Baschurch Parish Council supported the application, but said that members were "extremely concerned" about the possible cost of the building and asked for a demountable classroom to be considered if the cost is "exorbitant".
The original school building was built in last 1870 and was extended in the 50s and 60s, and an additional classroom was provided in 2010.
A report by Shropshire Council officer Richard Denison says: "The village of Baschurch has in recent years experienced a significant level of new housing investment and further housing developments are under construction and identified for future build.
"These will increase the population of the village and inevitably the demand upon school places at the school. The new classroom proposed at the school is in response to this demand."
The building will measure 7.6m deep by 11.3m wide and replace a canopy and a small area of the playground.
