Aspiring teacher thanks college experience

Charlotte Woodward is now studying primary education, specialising in early years, at the University of Chester.

The former Charlton School student previously completed a level three course in health and social care at Telford College.

She said: “I met amazing friends whilst at Telford College and thoroughly enjoyed it.

“The tutors are also very supportive and have a wide range of experience and knowledge across the sector which really helps when it comes to learning, reflecting and writing the assignments. I feel like I wouldn't have got A* grades anywhere else.”

Charlotte said she particularly enjoyed the work placement opportunities which were a key part of the college curriculum.

“I did my placements within learning disability provisions across Telford and Wrekin where I supported individuals over 18 who had complex medical needs and learning disabilities," she said.

Practical

“I found placement very rewarding and enjoyed being a part of different multi-disciplinary teams. I also enjoyed the practical elements of the course within the college, the fundraising events for different charities, and the trips.

“I would recommend the course, as it gives you a real insight into the sector of work as a whole and can lead to many different careers and professions. I feel like it was a good step towards preparing for university work.”

Charlotte is now about to begin the first in-person placement of her university course, working in a year two class.

She said: “In the future, I would love to secure a job as a teacher in a children's hospital.”

Telford College’s health, early years and education learner manager Sarah Cadenne de Lannoy said: “Charlotte was such an asset to the department who really threw herself into all aspects of the course.

“We are exceptionally proud of Charlotte, and she is a prime example of how hard work, compassion and commitment to study and self-development really pays off.”
