Newport boarding school given ‘point for improvement’ by Ofsted
A boarding school rated as being ‘good’ by Ofsted has been given a ‘point for improvement’ regarding its recruitment checks.
Haberdashers’ Adams Grammar School in Newport received a full Ofsted inspection last year when the setting was judged as being ‘good’.
The regulatory body made a ‘monitoring’ visit to the school in July to look at actions taken by the school’s senior leadership team ‘in response to a safeguarding concern’.
Inspectors found that the designated safeguarding and senior management team were ‘working effectively’ with external professionals to ‘ensure the safety and wellbeing of children’.
“There are clear policies and procedures that are followed in practice and records of events are clear,” found the Ofsted inspector.
“Referrals to partnership agencies are timely. Safety plans and risk assessments are implemented to ensure actions are taken that reduce future risks and ensure children are safe.”
