List of schools closed in Shropshire and Mid Wales due to weather conditions and snow - more announced

Several schools in Shropshire and Mid Wales are closed or set to close in today after snow fell overnight.

Residents of the county and the West Midlands woke up to their first taste of winter and a sheet of snow after yesterday's warnings for icy weather.

As temperatures remain low and roads affected, several schools in the region have decided to shut. 

Some have announced full closures, while others will carry out inspections later today, and may re-open if conditions allow.

Bishop Hooper primary school in Ashford Carbonell near Ludlow announced its closure at 8.13am today.

An announcement said it would be closed today "due to continued snow fall and dangerous road conditions which has affected high numbers of staff and their ability to get to school this morning."

Below is the full list of schools - primary and secondary - that are closed or set to close in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, and Powys - as listed on the councils' websites. 

Shropshire - primary 

  • Bishop Hooper, Ashford Carbonell

  • Bishop's Castle Primary - closing at 1pm

  • Burford 

  • Clee Hill Community Academy - may re-open this afternoon

  • Cleobury Mortimer Primary

  • Clunbury

  • Criftins 

  • Farlow

  • Kinlet

  • Newcastle CE Primary School 

  • Selattyn

Bishop's Castle Primary School announced at 10.23am that it would close from 1pm.

Shropshire - secondary

  • Marches, Oswestry (Academy) - partially open. Closed to years eight and nine only

  • Shrewsbury Academy -  partially open. Shrewsbury Academy will be closed to students in year groups eight and nine. Years seven, 10 and 11 have been told to "attend as normal".

  • Community College, Bishops Castle 

  • Lacon Childe, Cleobury Mortimer 

  • TMBSS - Bridgnorth Education Centre 

  • TMBSS - Hook A Gate 

  • TMBSS - Ludlow Education Centre 

  • TMBSS - Oswestry Education Centre 

  • TMBSS - Sundorne Education Centre 

  • TMBSS - Harlescott Education Centre

Telford and Wrekin

  • Buildwas Academy - Telford & Wrekin Council website said: "Partial closure due to unsafe travel conditions and site. This will be reviewed at 10am for a possible 1pm open."

  • Priorslee Academy - Telford & Wrekin Council website said: "Partial closure due to unsafe travel conditions and site. This will be reviewed at 10am for a possible 1pm open."

Powys

16 closures were announced before 9am in Powys. A number of schools then decided to close for the afternoon.

Welshpool High School closed from 11.25am to pupils.

The school's website said: "Following advice and due to worsening weather conditions, we have taken the decision to close the school from 11.25am today.

"Students who travel by bus will be collected at this time and we will allow students who walk to school to also leave the site at this time, unless contacted by yourselves to state otherwise."
