School 'making progress' on its drive to escape special measures and 'inadequate' rating
A school is making progress but "remains inadequate and requires special measures" following an Ofsted monitoring inspection.
Idsall School, in Shifnal, was plunged from Good into the lowly ranking in September last year following an inspection after the school was rocked by allegedly not taking sexual harassment between pupils seriously enough.
At the time the school disagreed with that assessment and called a parents' meeting to explain the situation.
Inspector Alexander Laney and senior inspector Sue Morris-King carried out a monitoring inspection of the school in Coppice Green Lane on May 17 and 18, publishing their findings last week.
Mr Laney wrote: "While leaders have begun to reshape their personal, social, health and economic education curriculum in response to concerns raised about sexual harassment and discriminatory behaviour in the previous inspection, more work is needed to secure improvement.
"Staff have yet to have the training and support they need to tackle the challenging concepts within the subject, and leaders have not made sure they have an accurate understanding of pupils’ views and experiences.
"Pupils told inspectors that incidents of discriminatory behaviour are still frequent. Leaders understand that this work needs sharper focus."
Across the report the inspectors noted that progress has been made but more work needs to be done.
Mr Laney wrote: "Leaders have made progress to improve the school, but more work is necessary for the category of concern to be removed.
