Four out of five ain't bad for young Shrewsbury footballers
A school's young footballers bagged four out of five trophies when they went to play at Greenhouse Meadow.
St Giles Primary School in Shrewsbury put forward five teams in the Shropshire Primary Schools finals over two days of play at the Shrewsbury Town FC stadium.
Of the five matches the young pupils played, they won four.
As a result the school has retained the under 10s Boys County Shield for a second year in a row, as well as winning the under 9s Boys County Cup – quite a feat for that team as it was the first competition they had ever entered.
The school also won the Kerrison Jones Cup and the Severn Cup – the latter on penalties – though lost out in the final of the Phil Lewis Cup.
Coach Harry Brown said the school had every age group in Key Stage 2 represented in the finals and winning a trophy.
He said: "All of the matches were highly competitive with very strong opponents.
"I am incredibly proud of all of the children who played over the two days, they had an excellent attitude towards the games and showed real sportsmanship.
"It is fantastic to see their hard work paying off, especially in front of so many supporting from St. Giles."
Caroline Gardner, head teacher, added: "I am very proud of all the children who took part and represented St. Giles School, they showed a very positive attitude, good sportsmanship and a great deal of resilience."
