Litter heroes: 128 Shrewsbury pupils join big tidy-up
Shrewsbury schoolchildren set a shining example to litter louts by keeping their community tidy.
Pupils and staff from The Priory School have come in for plenty of praise after their litter picking efforts just before the Easter holidays.
More than 120 children gave up the first hour of their holidays, as well as 35 members of staff, as they scoured Radbrook and Meole for rubbish.
After more than 25,000 litres of litter was dumped in the Quarry over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend - most of it booze bottles and cans according to Shrewsbury Town Council's head of operations Gary Farmer - people in the town have been full of admiration for the Priory youngsters for their hard work.

The school's head of maths, Jeremy Tudor, helped organise the project, and said it had proven a big success and was also very popular among the pupils.
“We thought that this would be a really nice way or getting out and doing something for the community together,” he said.
“We haven’t been able to do a huge amount before because of Covid.
“This is our first activity since setting up our eco team, so we’re looking forward to doing more.
“We put it out to all the students and we had 128 come back and say they wanted to take part, which is amazing.”
