Shrewsbury pub's temporary closure heralds start of sensitive work on historic building
A pub in one of the most historically important buildings in the county has been closed for a "light touch" restoration.
The Henry Tudor House in Barracks Passage is believed to be the only Grade-I listed pub in the county and it has been closed until late September-early October for highly sensitive work under the eagle eye of conservation experts.
Owned by Joule's Brewery, the proprietors have spent months preparing the nitty gritty of plans to make changes to turn it into a Joule's Brewery Taphouse.
A spokesperson for the brewery, based in Market Drayton, said they are proud supporters of local heritage and "thrilled to announce an exciting new development."
They say they are working closely with the local council and conservation officers to for a light touch transition of one of the town's historic buildings.
The brewery says it recognises the significant cultural value of this Grade I listed building and is committed to undertaking a respectful restoration that pays homage to its rich heritage.
"Our aim is to create a warm and inviting space that respects the integrity and history of the building while infusing it with the spirit of Joule's Brewery," said the spokesperson. "Our light touch transition will ensure that it remains a cherished landmark for generations to come.
