Tractor fans near Clun raise thousands
A family have handed over more than £4,000 raised by a unique day for tractor fans.
The Williams family at Twitchen Farm in Clunbury held a one-of-kind event in celebration of 100 years of Ford and Fordson tractors – with fellow owners of the classic agricultural vehicles congregating on south west Shropshire to see models from across the years.
Money from the event has now been handed over to Midlands Air Ambulance and Cancer Research UK, with a total of £4,160 split between the two in a cheque presentation at the farm.
Anne Williams said the day was held in February and was the idea of her husband Michael.
She said: "It's the centenary of Ford and Fordson and we have quite a few of our own. My husband just thought it would be quite good to get some other people with the tractors together and do it for charity.
"We charged people to come in and we also held a raffle, which is how we raised the money.
"We had about 130 tractors on the field on the day for people to look at, and we also have about 11 ploughs ourselves so decided to use them for a ploughing display.
"It was lovely, it was a nice day and it was a bit of a social event really.
"It was an opportunity for all the people with these type of tractors to get together, and some people came from quite a distance to do so – we were surprised about that.
"The family would like to thank all the stewards and helpers who worked so hard on the day and also Gordon Morris and the Teme Valley Vintage Club for the use of their tent, Harold Lewis for public conveniences, Wendy Oakley for her catering van and all who supported the event or gave donations," she said.
She said the event was likely to be a one-off rather than an annual thing.
