How investing in your staff can bring its own rewards
You may have an employee handbook, but how many of your staff have actually read it, or understand it? Shropshire employment law experts are helping managers and their employees to do just that.
Training staff so they are fully aware of their benefits and obligations at work can be hugely beneficial both for them and their employer.
Charlotte Morris, one of Lanyon Bowdler’s corporate employment law specialists, says there is little use in having policies in a handbook if employees do not know they are there, or do not understand that they are entitled to the various benefits available
Charlotte recently delivered a training session with a local employer - NiBS in Four Crosses, near Welshpool - to explain to staff both company rules and what benefits were included in their firm’s policies.
She said: “I was really impressed that they wanted staff to be clear on their entitlement to benefits, such as flexible working opportunities and family leave entitlement. It was a great example of a forward-thinking employer adapting to the changing needs and wants of their workforce.
“It was great to hear that the training was so well received - both by the staff themselves, and the employer. Having informed, included staff, provides long-term benefits to companies, and their staff.”
Grant Brackley, commercial director at NiBS, said the training was very worthwhile.
“We at NiBS believe in investing in our company, and this means investing in staff,” he added. “All staff found the training extremely useful and interesting - many did not realise what the law allows for all employees.
“The response to the whole day which also included ecological issues, approaches to CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility), and also mindfulness, was fantastic from all staff.
“We are already looking for another such day later in the year and would recommend this to any employer.
“The long-term benefits of having informed, included staff, are noticeable and ultimately help the bottom line.”
