How M&S is helping the community
M&S has introduced a brand new initiative to provide an easy in-store payment method to support volunteers shopping on behalf of the most vulnerable, older and self-isolating customers.
Its ‘We’re All in this Together’ E-gift Cards can be purchased online and work using a unique code which is sent to the email address provided during online checkout.
The volunteer shopper simply provides the unique barcode on their phone at the self-checkout or reads their E-Gift Card number to a colleague at the till to the M&S colleague at the till, and the value is deducted from the customer's E-gift Card balance. It's a great way to keep the fridges and cupboards of vulnerable customers well stocked without having to worry about exchanging cash or bank cards.
M&S has also reserved the first hour of trading for older and vulnerable customers, and for our brilliant NHS and emergency workers, along with health and social carers.
How M&S Food is going the extra mile
M&S stores are keeping customers and colleagues happy and healthy so they can keep their families well. Stores are carefully managing the number of people shopping at any one time and have introduced floor markings to ensure a two metre space is maintained between customers as well as installing protective perspex screens at checkouts. Full details of the safety measures can be found at M&S’s COVID-19 support page.
M&S has also expanded its range within its 46 hospital stores across the UK, including in Bristol, to ensure key workers in our NHS have access to fresh food and essentials. This means hospital workers can get all they need for lunch, evening meals and stock their cupboards with the basics. And M&S is also continuing to maintain food surplus redistribution through its Neighbourly scheme.
Stuart Machin, Managing Director of M&S Food, said: “We are fully committed to keeping our customers and colleagues well, in support of the government’s efforts to protect our NHS and save lives. We’re working closely to get the freshest food from our farms and suppliers as quickly as possible, and working round the clock to fill shelves, no matter what time you shop. We’re also introducing extra measures to help customers shop and colleagues work safely.”
