Super-surgery plan for Whitchurch patients

A new super doctor’s surgery could be built for thousands of patients in north Shropshire.

It is one of the options being looked at to replace a temporary surgery in Whitchurch, which has taken on 4,000 patients from the Richmond House practice, which controversially closed last year.

It could also see patients at the town’s two other surgeries – Dodington and Bridgewater – moved there.

The temporary surgery is currently operating from Beech Ward at Whitchurch Community Hospital for the next 14 months.

The Shropshire GP cooperative Shropdoc agreed to run the new surgery.

Julian Povey, chairman of Shropshire CCG, said it has been provided with a list of possible options about what could replace the temporary surgery next year.

He said: “We are working alongside a variety of stakeholders and partners to ensure that Whitchurch patients continue to receive high quality GP services.

“One of the options being explored includes the development of a new build which will house the three Whitchurch practices.

“A number of options are being explored and will be examined in detail over the coming months.”

The uncertainty over where the patients would end up after the Richmond House surgery closed had been criticised by patients, who complained they were being kept in the dark about the future of GP services.
