Work to repair Shrewsbury MLU ongoing

Work to repair Shrewsbury midwife-let unit's roof is progressing and the hospital is contacting with mothers individually.

The roof of the unit was damaged back in December last year after heavy snowfall, and birthing and other inpatient services were suspended.

In February maternity services were moved to a temporary home in ward 20 - another part of the Copthorne building, so women could the give birth in Shrewsbury, but the ward could not offer postnatal beds.

Since the repair work began further issues to the roof have been discovered, and back in February it was predicted that the work would take between four and six months.
