Diane Rogers, of Hadnall near Shrewsbury, died of ovarian cancer on October 4 at the age of 53. Her husband of 21 years, Kevin, and 16-year-old daughter Ellie have been left distraught at her death.

Diane was diagnosed with stage four cancer just under a year ago and started on a course of chemotherapy. Initially signs were good but the cancer was aggressive and returned and she was cared for at Severn Hospice in Shrewsbury.

Family friend Nicky Mackenzie set up a Go Fund Me page to help Kevin, a full time firefighter, pay for the costs of the funeral.

Nicky said: "The village showed true community spirit and set up a collection in the village shop and amazingly reached more than the £4,000 target.

"The monthly coffee morning at Hadnall Church kindly donated all of its donations for Kevin and Ellie, as the the church warden and CEO wanted to show their support to this beautiful family that have always done so much for the community.

"They've done so much for other people over the years that I was hoping that their kindness can now be paid forward. Ellie has been unbelievably strong and carried on at school through out all time seeing her mum, staying with her at night, watching to see if her mom was still breathing.

"It's just heartbreaking. I can't even imagine how hard this is for them and I'm amazed at how remarkable, how strong they are as a loving family."
