Shropshire Council and Telford & Wrekin Council are working jointly to appoint a new contractor for the next three years.

Currently the two councils run separate contracts with the same provider.

The contracts are due to expire on March 31 next year and it is hoped the new contractor will be in place to work across both councils from April 1.

It is envisaged that both councils will continue to hold separate contracts with the new contractor.

With an estimated contract value of £320,000 it is expected to bring in a number of applications.

Both councils have a budget for the appointment of an independent mental health advocacy service.

People who are treated under the Mental Health Act have the right to independent mental health advocacy (IMHA).

An IMHA is independent, they are not a member of the medical or social care team, and play no part in treatment and care.

They can provide care in a number of ways including explaining and exercising rights, request a review of the section through access to a mental health tribunal, raising concerns about care in hospitals, obtaining information about different treatments, offering support at meetings, reviews or ward rounds and being fully involved in any planning of care.

The deadline for expressions of interest in the contract is noon on December 3.
