Three more coronavirus deaths confirmed at Shropshire hospitals

Three more coronavirus deaths have been confirmed at the county’s hospitals.

The latest figures from NHS England show all three died while being cared for by Shrewsbury & Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH). Two died on Saturday and one died on Sunday. Altogether, another 313 deaths of people who had tested positive for the virus were confirmed in England.

It means that 486 people have now died with Covid at Shropshire's NHS trusts.

Of these, 457 deaths have been at SaTH, 28 at the Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust and six at the Orthopaedic Hospital in Gobowen.

An additional 246 people have died with Covid-19 in care homes in the county, with 183 of these in the Shropshire Council area and 63 in the Telford & Wrekin Council area.

In Powys, 189 people have died with coronavirus according to the Office for National Statistics.

In figures announced by NHS England on Monday, a further 313 coronavirus patients died in the country's hospitals, taking the total to 76,080.

A spokesman for NHS England said: "A further 313 people, who tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 76,080.

"Patients were aged between 16 and 108 years old. All except six – aged 49 to 81 years old – had known underlying health conditions.

"Date of death ranges from December 24 to February 7 with the majority being on or after February 3.

"Their families have been informed."
