Every year, 1,900 people in Shropshire are told they have cancer. By the year 2030, less than 11 years away, the number of people with cancer in Shropshire is expected to double, meaning that there is now an urgent need for more cancer information and support for people living with cancer in Shropshire.

Macmillan Cancer Support receives no government funding - despite an increase in demand for its services. Instead, the charity relies on the generosity of the public to continue providing local cancer support for the people of Shropshire.

The charity relies on fundraising and you can help everyone with cancer live life as fully as they can by signing up to one of the many great fundraising events taking place in Shropshire this year.

It is going to be a busy year again in 2019 for Macmillan’s Shropshire fundraising manager, Kate Thomas.

She said: “I am really looking forward to working with our committees, supporters, volunteers and partners again this year to organise this fantastic range of events.

"I sincerely hope that there is something for everyone to enjoy and get involved in to support Macmillan’s work in Shropshire.

"The generosity and enthusiasm of everyone that gets involved continues to make a huge difference to helping people living with and beyond cancer.

"The money raised at these events helps us continue to increase our services and support in the county, from the cancer nurse specialists, physiotherapists, speech therapists, GPs to the welfare rights officers and Shrewsbury and Telford information centres.”
