The tyres have been destroyed, the paint melted and the glass broken, leaving nothing but a metal shell to help police in their investigation.

A fire crew from Bridgnorth was sent to the scene off the B4368 between Morville and Aston Ayre at around 11.45pm on Friday.

They used two breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet while fighting the flames, and reported that the fire was out at 12.15am.

They called police for assistance, and now an investigation has been launched to try and find where the car has come from.

Officers attended shortly after the fire had been extinguished and said all identifying features had been destroyed.

Police believe it may have been a VW and, because of the suspicious circumstances of this incident, it is possible that it had been stolen or involved in criminal activity.

Anyone with information about the incident should call 101 and refer to incident reference 001S 290917.
