Crews were called to the fire at Bridgwalton just before midday and stopped the spread of the fire which was threatening to spread into a 40-acre field of crops.

A spokesman for Bridgnorth Fire Station said: "This prompt and professional action prevented the incident from becoming larger and lessened the impact on the farmer.

"All three appliances from the station attended the incident. They have returned to the station by 3pm and ensured we are operationally ready again.

"Firefighters used two hosereel jets, with water supplemented from the 9,000-litre water carrier to control and extinguish the fire.

"Our advice is simple, all we ask is people think about having fires. Consider the size of the fire, utilise a garden brazier to burn in. Think about likely spread of any fire as everything is so dry.

"Ensure they have a hosepipe close to hand. If they must burn.

"But ideally, we ask they don’t have a fire while the weather is so hot and dry."
