100 properties without power after tree brings down electricity cable near Bridgnorth

Firefighters were called to the live, smoking, high voltage cable which had been brought down by a fallen tree in Harcourt, Chorley.

Western Power Distribution estimated that 97 properties were left without power after the incident at about 9.30am.

Michael Clarke, spokesman for Western Power Distribution, said: "We had a report of a tree which had fallen on a power line.

"We isolated that section for safety reasons which resulted in 97 properties being without power in the Chorley area.

"We have all but six back with power and it is expected they will have power later this afternoon."

Fire crews, sent from Cleobury Mortimer, cordoned off the area while they waited for the arrival of Western Power engineers.
